Dear All,
This is the picture of Whiterumped Munia/Whitebacked Munia,Lonchura straiata. It's a small black and white
finch with heavy bluish conical bill and wedge shaped tail.White rump and white abdomen are very conspicuous in flight. The White-rumped Munia is a tiny gregarious bird which feeds mainly on seeds. It frequents open cultivated country, woodland, grassland and scrub. It is seen in a family of 6 or 7 or larger flocks. It utters feeble chirruping notes.Nest is a large globular or tunnel shaped one made up of flowering grasses with a lateral entrance hole usually in thick bushes. It lays 5 to 6 eggs pure white in colour. Both parents share domestic duties. The nests are used as a dormitory by the family even long after the young have flown.
Every year once the paddy fields are ready to harvest, we see a large flock of them coming to feast on the rice and also the seeds of the grass that grow abundantly in the fields.we see Whiterumped Munia and Spotted Munia in the flock. This year I also saw Blackheaded Munia, which unfortunately I couldn't photograph.
This picture was taken with Nikon D200 / 300mmAF S F4 Nikkor, handheld. I did slight colour adjustments in Photoshop and also removed noise using Neat image. It was then cropped and resized to upload in TN.

I would like to dedicate this picture to IVAN and ULLA KRUYS (Argus and Uleko),whose pictures of small birds have always fascinated me.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your critiques.

Dear Smitha,
Many thanks for your kind dedication but most of the birds are Ivan's job! I tend to stick to the small creatures but as you can see today I'm posting one showing the limitations of my camera!
Your capture of the Munia is beautiful, I love its pose here and the fine details. It really stands out against the light background and the composition is very beautiful.
TFS and all the best wishes, Ulla

Hello Smitha,
Thanks for the dedication!
May I take this opportunity in saying that I enjoy your bird photos too.
This shot of of the White-rumped Munia is sharp and though we don't actually see the white rump, taken from a fine POV. As usual, the lighting, composition, BG and colours are excellent.
Well done and thanks for this one!
Best wishes, Ivan

Like the compo and the colours, Smitha.
Beautiful, its perching and pose are just right.

Hello Smitha

Excellent shot of this finch
Good composition, great sharpness and plumage detail.
I wonder if this is a White-bellied Munia not White-rumped?

I really like the composition here. Including some of the environment is always nice. The bird is sharp and you've captured a good pose.

Hello Smitha,
Beautiful photo of this Munia. Very good light, colours, sharpness, composition and POV. Nice pose. A pity: a bit of noise round the bird. But it's not innoying.

Hi Smitha,
Nicely composed good focused image of this Munia.
Good Pose/POV also.

The colour of the frame, the bird and the twigs are in perfect harmony. I should say "also". Just cool! Had those leaves been fresh.. it would have been fine, but then we are not choosers, often!

Hi Smitha,
Very nice shot of this whiterumped Munia, with vivid natual colours and excellent details.
Very nice composition and POV, well capture of nice pose, background colours are also lovely.

Hi Smitha,
Outstanding shot of this beautiful looking Munia with sharp details on its plumage and against a fabulous BG. The lighting is superb and the DOF is absolutely precise here. I like its pose very much and your POV to portray it. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Smitha,

Hmmm wondering where to start :-)? Everything looks so great!! Well done.
