[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I AM ONE YEAR OLD TODAY. It is on this day that I began my rollercoster ride on TN. A complete novice putting forward his first apprehensive step to the world of producing permanent and visible images by the action of light which they call photography. Since then, this is my 150th posting. Thank you everyone for all the support, encouragement and positive critiques without which I would never have been uptill here. The fact remains that whatever little I have learnt have been by following on the footsteps of everyone here and in observing and listening to all the constructive sugesstions. You-all have been such fantastic friends and seniors. My heartfelt thanks to all on TN. Nonetheless, the learning and educational journey continues................

I thank our esteemed member Haraprasan Nayak, for without his help I would never have got this shot. My almost obsession for getting Chameleon shots was answered when HP called up and the 24 hours which followed were exciting and adventurous to say the least. To cut a long story short, I finally got my beautiful model posing for me.

The Indian Chameleon, Chamaeleo zeylanicus is a species of chameleon found in Sri Lanka, India and other parts of South Asia. Like other chameleons, this species has a long tongue, feet that are shaped into bifid claspers, a prehensile tail, independent eye movement and the ability to change skin colour. They move slowly with a bobbing or swaying movement and are usually arboreal. Strangely, they do not choose the background colour and may not even be able to perceive colour differences. They are usually in shades of green or brown or with bands. They can change colour rapidly and the primary purpose of colour change is for communication with other chameleons and for controlling body temperature by changing to dark colours to absorb heat.

More then 160 species of Chameleons are known, arranged in nine genera. About half the species occur in Madagascar and neighbouring islands, the other half chiefly in Africa.

The head has a bony casque, ornamented with crests or tubercles. A separation between the eyes, the interorbital septum is present. Pre-maxillary extremely small, edentulous; orbit bony all round, the pre- and post-frontals often joining to form a supraorbital roof; a pair of supra-nasal fontanelles, bordered by the nasals, the prefrontals, and the frontal; the latter bone single; parietal single, often much narrowed and compressed, forming a crest, and meeting posteriorly the extremities of the squamosals. Dentition acrodont; teeth compressed, triangular, more or less distinctly tricuspid. Palate toothless. Eye large, covered by a thick granular lid pierced with a small central opening for the pupil. No tympanum or external ear. Body compressed; neck very short. Vertebrae procoelian. Abdominal ribs present. Limbs long, raising the body. Digits arranged in bundles of 2 and 3; in the hand, the inner bundle is formed of three, the outer of two digits; it is the reverse in the foot. Tail prehensile. Head and body covered with granules or tubercles.

Casque much elevated posteriorly, with strong curved parietal crest; the distance between the commissure of the mouth and the extremity of the casque equals or nearly equals the distance between the end of the snout and the hinder extremity of the mandible; no rostral appendages; a strong lateral crest, not reaching the end of the parietal crest; an indication of a dermal occipital lobe on each side, not reaching the parietal crest. No enlarged tubercles on the body; a feebly serrated dorsal crest; a series of conical tubercles form a very distinct crest along the throat and belly. Male with a tarsal process or spur, Tail longer than head and body. Gular-ventral crest white; commissure of the mouth white.

From snout to vent 7 inches long with a prehensile tail of 8 inches.

Scientific classification -
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Reptilia
Order: Squamata
Suborder: Sauria

Hi Sumon

This is a splendid occasion and a wonderful photo to celebrate it with! Congratulations and To many more!!!
I love reptiles and i especially like cameleons, despite the fact that i've never seen one in real life yet.
The details you managed here are superb and the textures you managed to replicate are impeccable!
The side POV works very nice for this portrait and - although he is not looking at us - it gives us a good impression on his very mobile eyes.
Spot-on exposure and magnificent colors everywhere!

Bravo and TFS

Your POV was simply great, adjusting the framing to include those flowers to adds that red spots that works wonderful to the visual impact.

Hello Sumon,
Congratulations for your 150th post and one year posting. You have already achieved a lot.
Chameleons are amazing creatures and I understand your interest for them. You caught a very vivid expression and show us the subtle colouration with different tones of green, which may change in the next moment to another colour..
Thanks a lot
Best regards

Wow!!! you posted quite a bit! I've been here since 2005 and haven't hit the 200 mark yet. :)

Another fantastic shot...amazing detail showing us the true texture of the chameleon's skin. Wonderful colors...which is quite important in photographing chameleon's right! ;)

A Chameleon you say....wow...very nice for number 150. A different species than I am used to seeing from you, BUT you use all the perfect apertures, speeds and "stuff" that you know by heart. Very nice and congratulations. I too learn every day!

A good year - 150 more than just good shots and an excellent celebratory one today. As almost always you put expensive equipment to shame and underline what is needed to produce spectacular images. A good eye, patience and skills.
You got all that - and I'm happy to see each and every new post of yours. TFS, Sumon!!!

Hello Sumon,

WOW! What a fantastic chameleon!!! I.m really impressed about the details of the skin! I like the little spark in the eye also and you managed to have a perfect POV in order to obtain that great closeup! Colors are so natural too! I'm just wandering if you should have choose a bigger aperture than f/5.6 in order to get a more blurred bg...

But it remains a wonderful picture to my eye!

Great job and TFS!

Hi Sumon.

Any way nice capture. Thanks a lot for sharing.
