The Oriental White-eye, Zosterops palpebrosus, is a small passerine bird in the white-eye family. It is a resident breeder in open woodland in tropical Asia east from India to China and Indonesia.
It is sociable, forming large flocks which only separate on the approach of the breeding season. It builds a tree nest and lays 2-5 unspotted pale blue eggs.
Though mainly insectivorous, the Oriental White-eye will also eat nectar and fruits of various kinds.
This species is about 10cm long. The plumage above is green, and the underparts are white except for a bright yellow throat and breast. It has rounded wings and strong legs.
The English and scientific names refer to the conspicuous ring of white feathers round the eyes, zosterops being Greek for 'girdle-eye'.
In Sri Lanka, this species can be distinguished from the endemic Sri Lanka White-eye, Zosterops ceylonensis, by its smaller size and brighter back and throat.

PS: Yesterday, I took out my camera after a long time. I had been observing a lot of activity on the Altonia trees in the school compound for a few days. These trees flower at this time of the year, attracting hordes of butterflies and other insects. I took a number of shots including of the new birds that have appeared in the compound recently. This bird picture is the first upload from my yesterday's shoot.

Fantástica !!

You have made good use of. patterns here to catch the eye, yet the coloured bird sticks out so well. It is eye pleasing to look at. The contrast between surrounding is great and again brings back to the focal point. Nice creative imagery Ram.

Hi Ram

Great composition - the contrast of the small bird and harsh rectangles works very well. I agree with Bob - very creative.

Hi Ram,
Wonderful shot and the distinct white circle around its eyes make the bird look beautiful to say the least. Lovely yellow colours on its plumage. The checkered wires make a fine effect and the black BG looks perfect in highlighting the subjects. Superb lighting and sharp details. Excellent POV to capture this fabulous pose and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Ram,
Beautiful Oriental White-eye. Sharp focus and well exposed image. The dark background stands out this little bird. I also like the way you composed this picture.

Hello Ram ! What a nice little fellow ! Great sharpness, good exposure and great surroundings. Well done, I can't wait for the others !

Hi Ram,
eye catching even from the thumbnail, this picture shows a distinctly artistic, minimalized and powerful composition and very pleasant colours. And, as always from you, it is coming with well informing educational notes. Makes me looking forward to seeing the rest of "hordes of butterflies" and new birds from that session in the school compound.
With thanks! All the best to you.

P.S.: Thanks for the link into your blog. Looks elegantly designed, and it is well informing and entertaining to read.

Hello Ram !
This is such a cute little bird ! I love its colors, with this white circle around the eye. The fence does not look very natural, but I like it because it is unusual and I like how the bird is sitting in one of the squares. Excellent composition. Also a good POV, nice natural colors and fine details. Very well done !
