These beautiful patterns are formed by some type of crabs (which I will post later). You can see a more close up version in the WS.

The crabs dug their holes by forming little balls deeper and deeper until there was a hole. Crabs feed off microscopic material in between the grains of sand.
So after feeding off the stuff in the sand, the crab will roll it up into a ball and toss it over his shoulder. (I'm not sure they have shoulders though.) Thus forming those little balls of sand.

This is specially for Maite and Mehmet. Hope you will like. Thanks a lot for viewing.

Hello Haraprasan
What a fantastic shot and explanation of this interesting 'crabish activity' :)
The pattern formed is really curious and beautiful. I'm looking forward to see the crab!
Thank you very much for your excellent job.

Fascinating phenomenon, and for me, another one of the marvels of nature Haraprasan, I spent most of my life on or near the seashores but never witnessed something even similar to this. I'm waiting to see the culprit itself, which likes to toss balls of sand "over its shoulder" after feeding on the contents!

Hi Haraprasan,
i have seen similar things also in parts of the coast here, but never in such an perfectly formed pattern as this...they almost resemble ammonite shells in their layout!
Great job my friend, very interesting indeed..

You know what, HP?
In the first glance, I thought you were in a spaceship and taking pictures of the Planet Earth from there!
Seriously speaking, it is an aerial perspective to capture these interesting formations made by crabs in the sand.
I guess Mehmet was curious about these ball shaped things in your previous picture.
Anyway, this shot has amused me a lot.

very very nice, TFS Ori

Hi my frien Haraprasan,

Wow! That's amazing!
I wonder why they roll the sand into balls instead of just tossing it out!
Excellent contrast showing the little balls very clearly.
Sharp and detailed.
Very well done, Haraprasan!
Thanks very much for sharing this!

Hello Prasan,
This is the most original pattern of nature that we always see it on the beaches but never aware it's own beauty, but you had a good eye and captured it, sure is beautiful in photographing!
many thanks for that

Hello Haraprasan. These small crabs do make excellent patterns on the sand and you have spotted it really well. Nice detail with the hole in it as well. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Hi Haraprasan

Great posting - I have seen many of these crab 'workings' but never two such perfect ones together. Natural 'art' at its best. Well observed and captured.

Hi Haraprasan,
Outstanding shot and you have portrayed a classic phenomenon on beachside. Very neat and sharp image and I like your top POV which presents a fabulous perspective. The symmetry and the patterns are so unique here. Excellent composition. Kudos.

Hello Haraprasan,
An interesting phenomenon well captured, well seen too!
The angle of light is important to make the pattern come out well, like this...
Fine textures and good colour reproduction!
