Friends, I have a lot of dragonfly pictures taken during the summer of 2008.
Not to overdo it, I post their pictures off and on and here is one for you today.
This is a male Ruddy Marsh Skimmer or Scarlet Skimmer. The female of this species is frequently seen but males are generally scarce.
Given below is a brief note on it:

Name: Ruddy Marsh Skimmer
Scientific Name: Crocothemis servilia

The female Ruddy Marsh Skimmer is reddish yellow in colour. The male is blood red in colour with marked blue in the lower part of the eye. Both have amber coloured wing patches at the base of their wings and a black mid dorsal stripe on the abdomen.

PS: (2.2.09)Friends, I'm posting the totally untouched Workshop version of this picture converted into jpeg from raw for the viewing of Roel in particular. My point is to present before you and him the facts -- how a picture taken in 'vivid' colour mode of Nikon sRGB looks untouched and how it looks after it is edited on PS CS3. Even the lens dirt is visible in the original and has not been touched at all. I would like you to have a look at the saturation level in the original. At PP level, I did not touch the saturation level at all but did the rest to make this presentation. I am grateful to Roel for his candidness and have stretched his point only to bring facts into light and to have an objective discussion on the technology of digital photography. Personal opinions are of little value in such discussions. Thanks.
-Ram

Hi Ram. What a colourful one this is . You have taken a fine side view of the Red coloured dragonfly. Which you have taken with fine detail and rich colours. A nice side POV/DOF. well done TFS.
Nick..

Hi Mr. Ram,
A good capture of this beautiful Ruddy Marsh Skimmer. Excellent sharp details and a nice composition. But I think the colors are a little bit oversaturated but it is not a problem. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
HP

Hello Ram,
Excellent shot, superbly focused and nice DDF, great sharpness and very neat image.
Lovely colors, very aesthetic piece of artwork.Best regards Siggi

Is it Christmas Ram? wow! What deep reds and greens. It sure does stand out...A fine display..among your top 10!
Bob

Hi Ram,

I think you made a very nice shot,
But I think it's oversaturated . . .
And I do not agree with haraprasan . . . This oversaturating makes the picture unnatural.
Sorry, but this is what I really think!

Roel

Reds and greens in perfect counterpoint here Ram, and that sliver of blue a fine balancing point. A lively image and a beautiful composition in nature my friend, thank you indeed for sharing it with us.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hi Ram!

Nature's creation is so various and surprising. I have never seen a Dragonfly of that species and I find the colours amazing. The green background contrasts so well with the insect's colour.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Ram !
I don't know how, but it seems that somehow I missed this beauty, so here we go, I'll coment it now. What I like most here, it is the vivid colors and the striking contast between red and green. Of course, the details, the composition, the POV and the pose of the dragonfly are wonderful too. Very well done !
Valérie.
