Friends,

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Ciconiiformes
Family: Ardeidae

An egret is any of several herons, most of which are white or buff, and several of which develop fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season. Many egrets are members of the genera Egretta or Ardea which contain other species named as herons rather than egrets. The distinction between a heron and an egret is rather vague, and depends more on appearance than biology. The word "egret" comes from the French word "aigrette", referring to the long filamentous feathers that seem to cascade down an egret's back during the breeding season.

Congregation of Egrets at Dusk in Kolleru Lake, Andhra Pradesh, India.Several of the egrets have been moved around from one genus to another in recent years: the Great Egret, for example, has been classified as a member of either Casmerodius, Egretta or Ardea.

In the 19th and early part of the 20th century, some of the world's egret species were endangered by relentless hunting, since hat makers in Europe and the United States demanded massive numbers of egret plumes and breeding birds were killed in locations all around the world.

Hello Ganesh, neighbour today,
a very nice picture with a egret, it's taken with good sharpness and in a nice pose.
Maybe it a little to centred but it's a minor.
Fine DOF the bird is in good focus and still stand out well from the BG.
Well done.
/Gert

wonderful pattern on the light filled wings,i love the composition , but somehow you ppl at Delhi post with this aspect ratio. I feel that the picture might look better if the aspect ratios are preserved.

Excellent take-off capture of a back-lit Cattle Egret, Ganesan.
The posture of the bird is elegant.
The image is pin sharp and beautiful.
You have now qualified as an ace photographer of flying birds with this shot. congratulations!
Sadly, I have failed the test many a time :(.

Hello Ganesh,
You caught here the perfect pose, just like a ballerina! Very fine picture of the elegant Egret with subtle colors, my be just a little too much centred. Plaesant also the light on the wings of the bird.

Hi Nara, what a beautiful shot! This egret seem dance like in a russian ballet. Fantastic the position of the light that show the wings spectaculary. My best compliments, have a nice day,LUCIANO

You have captured the sheer strength of the bird. This quality is what comes through even in the thumbnail but much more so in larger...I'll wager this one would do well as small poster for the wall...back in the days when I was flush...before the days of "broke" I would have my walls covered wit my images...but today in this new age I have all others which surround me..I would love this one in large format if you would be so kind!

Hi Ganesan.
What a charming bird and artistic scene at whole. Superb timing, terrific exposure parameters and freezing of the moment. Great combination of crisp sharp main character and nice smoothness of the BG. Bravo.
