It was only yesterday that I had a look at Silpa's delightful picture of two Indian Squirrels depicting the tender moment of love between the two which she had posted some time ago.
My picture today depicting the similar emotion is, therefore, dedicated to Silpa in appreciation of her work and her caring and affectionate temprament known to us all through her critiques written from the heart.

I have borrowed the caption for this image from the title of an old Elvis Presley movie, mainly because it fits the situation and also because most of you associated the 'hair-style' of these Himalayan Bulbuls with that of the famed actor of the yester-years :). Some of you even called it the 'punk' hair-style!
Thanks for the warm response to my first picture of this species I shot recently during my visit home in the mountains.

The picture is not upto the mark due to the fact that these birds were perched inside a dense growth of lantana and other bushes. The light was poor and it was difficult to isolate them from the surrounding foliage. Hope you and particularly Silpa will forgive me for the low quality.

There is very little information on this bird on the net. I can only repeat that this species of Bulbuls has been recognized as a separate entity and ought not be confused with other Yellow-vented Bulbuls without a crest because it is the crest or the 'hair-style' that distinguishes this bird from the other Bulbuls.

The picture was taken hand-held from a distance of about 5 meters. The picture was cropped, resized and cycled through levels to make the eyes of the birds visible, which, otherwise, merge with the black of the head, especially when the light is inadequate.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hallo Ram
What a beautiful dedication for a fine lady that is part of the Trek nature community. I have come to know Silpa as person full of compassion and respect for her fellow mates. This is indeed a lovely image, bringing across a message of love and devotion. I just love the swanky crests. I also like the emotion captured on each individuals face. The bird on the left hand side of the frame looks rather protective, and the one on the right hand side looks proud and prim and proper. Love the white patches on the cheeks. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards

birds. Great POV and composition... Well done

Witaj Ram
Beauty amorous scene. Very pretty frame. It looks how watched furtively furtively. Beautiful colours. Birds from their cres look charming. Blurred leaflets with front, they inflict that picture is more yet interesting.
Gratulacje i pozdrowienia - Roma

Hi Ram

Excellent shot. Especially the pose is lovely.
I would advise you adjust contrast or level slightly. Your pic has no black tones. Only very dark greys. The outcome is flat, especially by comparaison to the frame with is real black and large.
I love this pic.

Dear Sir,
THANK YOU, for this wonderful thought.
The moment is most beautiful as it is captured by your lens. The light and the environment condition were not the best, yet, you have made the best of the PoV. I bet you wished they moved slightly to the right where little sunshine is streaming in so that you could get them in better light. But then these lovers donot seem interested in such an idea:)I find the affectionate display among animals and birds very fascinating ...one moment they behave like strangers, the male looking least bothered about the female, and in the next, they look as passionate as human beings and rightly display their feelings in such a wonderful manner.

Look at the one recieving all the attention, he/she is all fluffed up in excitement and for sure is revelling in the sweetness of the moment. I like the glint in those eyes that you have managed to bring out. And the crest is the most beautiful part of the birds. I have seen yellow vented bulbuls here in IIT. But with the crest these birds look so different. It makes them look totally fashionable and stylish.

Thanks again for your kind and generous words and this thoughtful gesture. This one goes right into my theme “When Friends Spare a Thought.."

Warm regards

As a matter of interest I tried searching on the internet for some more information on the bird. It was hard to come by.After a long and ardous search of key word combinations, I could glean some information. I would love to add this here as a token of thanks to you.
Whitecheeked Bulbul- Pycnonotus leucogenys
The bird is an earth-brown bulbul with black head, glistering white cheeks, and sulphur yellow patch under root of tail. The crest varies from the rudimentary rounded black tuft of the race (seen in Gujarat) to the long forwardly curving pointed crest ( as seen in Himalayan Bulbuls). The Himalayan Bulbul is locally called Kushandra or Bhooroo.

The bird grows up to 18 cm in length. Its upperparts are dull grey, with darker flight feathers and black-brown tail whose feathers show terminal white spots. Eyes are red-brown, narrow yellow eye-ring. Sexes alike. Move around in pairs or scattered parties, in gardens and open scrub country. Jaunty and vivacious as the last. Tame and confiding.. Has a variety of cheery notes. On the countryside has a preference for semi-desert where berries of peepoo and wild caper are its favorite food. Insects and flower nectar are also eaten.

Range Description: This species has a large range, with an estimated global Extent of Occurrence of 100,000-1,000,000 km². Believed to be large as the species is described as 'common' in at least parts of its range (Grimmett et al. 1998). Evaluated as Least Concern.
