[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was born this day sixty-three years ago.
Though I have posted numerous pictures of the place I was born in, I decided to do it again on my 63rd birthday today.
It is a recent picture taken in February 2009. It had rained and snowed the previous night. On waking up, I took a leisurely walk along the top of the long ridge on which my village is located. It was a bright, sunny and crisp winter day with fresh snow on the mountains. I stopped at one point and took this picture.
How I felt at that moment can best be expressed in the words of William Wordsworth quoted from his famous poem Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey:

These beauteous forms,
Through a long absence, have not been to me
As is a landscape to a blind man's eye:
But oft, in lonely rooms, and 'mid the din
Of towns and cities, I have owed to them
In hours of weariness, sensations sweet,
Felt in the blood, and felt along the heart;
And passing even into my purer mind,
With tranquil restoration:--feelings too 30
Of unremembered pleasure: such, perhaps,
As have no slight or trivial influence
On that best portion of a good man's life,
His little, nameless, unremembered, acts
Of kindness and of love. Nor less, I trust,
To them I may have owed another gift,
Of aspect more sublime; that blessed mood,
In which the burthen of the mystery,
In which the heavy and the weary weight
Of all this unintelligible world, 40
Is lightened:--that serene and blessed mood,
In which the affections gently lead us on,--
Until, the breath of this corporeal frame
And even the motion of our human blood
Almost suspended, we are laid asleep
In body, and become a living soul:
While with an eye made quiet by the power
Of harmony, and the deep power of joy,
We see into the life of things

Incidentally, this is also my 850th post.

Hello Ram,
You are born with the birth of Spring, how nice. I wish you Happy Birthday!
I showed this picture to my husband, hiding your title and asked where it has been taken. He told me, probably Valais. It's just amazing how close these two landscapes are. You managed to make a good picture, despite difficult light/shadow parts.
Very touched too by the poem, it goes straight to the heart.
Thanks so much
Best regards

Although I have been very inactive here as of late, I had to comment on this beautiful place you call home and to wish you a Very Happy Birthday. What a wonderful place to be able to call home, the natural beauty abounds, but I know with the terrain there must be hardships as well. Your images and notes have always brought me pleasure and learning, so I would also wish the thank you on the occasion of your 850th post what a great contributer you been to the community. So many things to be thankful for today. Thank you my friend.
