[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There are some birds of which when you get a image , it makes your hobby worthwhile. The ODKF is such a bird for me and while I have always been dreaming of a decent image of the beauty , I managed this in my recent visit to Goa.
This little bird has been a dream for me. I have been birding for the past 5 yrs and always dreamt that one day I will get a decent sighting of this jewel. Last year , I did get a glimpse, but it was of a juvenile. This year on a birding trip to Goa , I was sure, I wanted to search for this guy . Every day, I would go into the National Park ....3 days and I heard the jewel ...another 3 days and I managed this .

All I know is that it was worth the effort !!!

Believe me..I was numb with happiness when I finally got the shot. Could not think straight for atleast 15 mins after that.
Something about the bird :
14cm. Red and yellow, yellow underparts with bluish-black upperparts, red bill, orange-red legs and feet, dark eye.
Five subspecies are recognized[1]: erithaca, macrocarus, motleyi, captus, and jungei. Rufous-backed Kingfisher (Ceyx rufidorsa) has been split from Black-backed Kingfisher.
Forest bird . Prefers the dark humid dense foliage places .

This photo has so much character to it, and is definite a favourite. My first image I posted on Trek Nature was also that of a kingfisher. It was a real pleasure stopping by this Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher filled with a rainbow of colours. I want to compliment you on the fine photography. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Rakesh,
Indeed a jewel and I can understand your feelings. But the quality of the photo is also very good. A few places with some noise (feet), but in general a splendid photo. The colours and sharpness are gorgeous. Great pose, composition and OOF BG.
