The Plum-headed Parakeet (Psittacula cyanocephala) is a parrot which is a resident breeder in Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It is endemic to the Indian subcontinent.
The Plum-headed Parakeet is a mainly green parrot, 33 cm long with a tail up to 22 cm. The male's head is red, becoming purple-blue on the back of the crown, nape and cheeks. There is a narrow black neck collar and a black chin stripe. There is a red shoulder patch and the rump and tail are bluish-green, the latter tipped white. The upper mandible is orangish-yellow, and the lower mandible is dark.
The female has a grey head, corn-yellow upper-mandible and lacks the black neck collar, chin stripe and red shoulder patch. Immature birds have a green head and both mandibles are yellowish.
The different head colour and the white tip to the tail distinguish this species from the similar Blossom-headed Parakeet (Psittacula roseata).
The Plum-headed Parakeet is a gregarious and noisy species with range of raucous calls. The usual flight and contact call is oink? repeated now and then. It undergoes local movements, driven mainly by the availability of the fruit and blossoms which make up its diet. It nests in holes in trees, laying 4-6 white eggs.
The Plum-headed Parakeet is a bird of forest and open woodland. Though this species is not exploited as heavily as the sympatric Alexandrine Parakeet the trade takes its toll on local populations across the range. Population is reduced in urban areas and heavily inhabited zones

Hi Dear Brother,

It's soooo good to see you here and wonderful to see this beautiful parakeet. It reminds me of the first time I saw a parrots flying free and not caged. It was in your wonderful country. The details of the face and eyes are just magnificent. The colors are excellent. I love the pose, the fine clarity and the setting. I know how difficult it is to recover from the death of a loved one. It takes time, but it will get better. I promise.

hello dear friend Goldy,

How are you doing? This is a lovely shot of this parakeet. I had never seen this before in my region! Very nice and clear shot. Very well composed!

Hi Goldy
Wonderful shot this lovely colored bird.
Perfect details and colors.

Hallo Goldy
What a fascinating bird. Beautiful colors. The patterns on the head are so strikingly different from the body that it almost appears to have 'dressed in the dark' but the results are gorgeous. Great image with soft colours and it is giving you the eye! The dried leaves in the background compliment the image well. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hello Goldy,
Great to see a photo from you after such a long time. I hope you are doing well now.
Very beautiful presentation of this parakeet in nice natural colours and good sharpness. Good composition and eye-contact.

Hi Goldy,

The leaves abd the branch are framing well the bird. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the Plum-Headed Parakeet. It is clear and sharp. The morning light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Goldy,
Very well shot photograph with perfect details of Plum-headed Parakeet. TFS

Dear Goldy!

I like your picture of the Plum-headed Parakeet very much. It's simple, yet very pleasant and I especially like the bird's pose. From my point of view, the withered leaves take a too important amount of space and tend to crush the parrot to death.

Kind regards

Dear Goldy,
I like very much your photo of the Plum-Headed Parakeet.

The natural surroundings are very interesting, depicting the habitat of this bird - helping to visualise - why it has these colours in order to melt into the leaves for protection against predators.

Your notes are interesting and educational, thank you.

I must admit, I am not very keen on frames in general, but in this case I feel, that a less bold frame in a softer colour might have been more appropriate. However - as the saying goes - one can not argue about personal taste :-))...

It is a pleasure to view your work and the great photographic skills it displays.

Greetings from South Africa

Thanks for your critique on my recent picture, Goldy.
So, how are you?
This picture of a different looking Parakeet is well composed within the surrounding foliage. The head of this bird is quite attractive with its distinct colouring.
Looking forward to your return to TN.

Namastey Goldy, my brother

Hello Goldy,
This is such a beautiful bird and you present it to us in a fine photo. Love the composition and gorgeous colors in his plumage. Great DOF and wonderful exposure. Well done!!
I have only see parrots in the wild once, and this is when Rosie and I took a mission trip to Brazil a few years ago. I still rember the way they would fly in unison with each other and the very loud noises they made.
