[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today I present a full dorsal view of this large Magnificent Emperor I shot recently during my trek to Sach Pass in Himachal Pradesh. It was shot in the compound of a resthouse in Chamba and I have never felt as excited as I did when I saw this great creature which, I thought, belonged to Europe. Hope you too like it.

Magnificent Emperor or Blue Darner
Anax immaculifrons (Rambur, 1842)

Family: Aeschnidae
Genus: Anax
Species: Anax immaculifrons

•Face: Pale green face; sapphire-blue eyes
•Wings: Transparent wings with tinted amber yellow; reddish brown wing spot
•Thorax: Dorsally blue-green in colour; laterally turqoise blue in males and greenish yellow in females; two black stripes on lateral thorax.
•Abdomen: Abdominal segments are broadly turqoise blue with black apical halves. Black replaced with dark red-brown in females.
•The male is large in size with green and black stripes to the thorax and an amazing orange abdomen. Its anal appendages are also large.

Breeding Areas: Slow moving hill streams. Females lay eggs on aquatic plants submerged under water.

The shot was taken hand-held from a distance of about 1 metre using fill flash and with ISO 400. The fellow returned to the same plant in the shaded veranda of the resthouse again and again and gave me the chance to shoot quite q few pictures of it.

Thanks for looking.

You do as much justice to this beauty from this POV as you did previously Ram.
Another fine capture, the colours and clarity showing the features of this Magnificent Emperor at their best.
It can just about be considered European, though definitely not from Scandinavia: I wish it occurred in my part of the world but a consolation is viewing this fine portrait of it.
Thanks best regards,

Ciao Ram, fantastic dragonfly with wonderful colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done my friend, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Hi Ram,
Very nice Dragon fly. You shot it on a flat plane and it is focused so well. Nice colours, magnificant. Dragonflies in North America always return to the same spot as well. I believe that they are defending their territory. Well done.
