The Purple Sunbird (Male) looks all black from a distance; however, the metallic dark blue with tufts of yellow & scarlet reveals the true color of the bird.
Found throughout Indian Subcontinent; feeds largely on flower nectar although also feeds on spiders & small Insects. The long curved bill is adapted for probling the nectar tubes.
A very restless bird which flits about from one place to another; I found this sitting rather quietly on the branch of the tree. |
