[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
They are the whites among a host of blacks (Leucistic/Albino). Albinism in black buck is rare and caused by the lack of the pigment melanin. The animal looks fully white due to the lack of melanin in its skin. Wildlife experts say the biggest problem with these albinos is they are singled out by predators and hunted.

Due to the lack of melanin production in both the retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) and iris, albinos typically have red eyes due to the underlying blood vessels showing through. In contrast, leucistic animals have normally coloured eyes.

The black buck is protected in India by the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
