[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
During my recent trek to Pahalgam region in Kashmir Valley, I came across a Himalayan Woodpecker for the first time. Both male and female of the species were in view but rather high up on hundreds of feet tall pine and other trees. For the first time, I felt that my Sigma 70-300 mm lens was not adequate for bird photography.
Anyway, here is a picture of the male of the species I took from the ground level and from a distance of about 40 meters.

The Himalayan Woodpecker (Dendrocopos himalayensis) is a species of birds in the Picidae family. It is found in Afghanistan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan.

Habitat

Its natural habitats are boreal forests and temperate forests.

Description

A medium sized, pied woodpecker. Black above with broad white patches from shoulder to lower back, limited white barring on flight feathers and clean white tail edgings. Underparts and head plain pale buff with black Y-shaped mark on neck and cheeks, red crown in male and black in female. Black marks under eyes unique. Vent pink.

Dear Ram,
I have added your photo to my theme " camouflage" because on the thumb nail I did not see it except the red flashes. :-)

Your notes are like always very educational, thank you.

It is a photo like yours which make it worthwhile to be a member of TN.

To show us a rare species is so important, thank you.
Pleased do not stop posting!

Warm greetings from the Tzaneen Dam, in Limpopo, South Africa
Ingrid

Nice capture under difficult light condition but I feel a bit more sharpness could be achieved.

Hello Ram

Under a subject very far and poor light circumstances
specially when you have to zoom fully and
the light enter less in the lens, you did
