Lion tailed Macaque:
Covered in smooth, black hair, lion-tailed macaques are hard to see in the shady forest. They have distinctive gray manes that frame their faces and give them a big-headed look. These animals get their common name from their tuft-tipped, droopy tails. Lion-tailed macaques live in moist, shady evergreen forest in the Western Ghats mountains of Southern India. In the wild, lion-tailed macaques eat fruits, seeds, buds, leaves, insects, and small birds and mammals.

Lion tailed Macaque was one among the IUCN Red list of endangered animals. Now it is no longer on ‘The World’s 25 Most Endangered Primates’ list, after the international body compiling it determined that the State governments had acted positively to protect it.The habitat of the lion-tailed macaque continues to be fragmented though it is getting positive attention in the Western Ghats. Across India, the growing problem is one of conflicts among langurs, macaques and humans, aggravated by lack of understanding of primate behaviour

Hello Smitha,
The thumbnail image doesn't do this shot much justice, it was only when I brought it up on my screen that I realized how neat it actually is. The Macaque is shown in exceptional detail even though it seems to be hiding from you. Awesome eye contact with such an intense gaze on it's face. Nice capture!!
