Large Cabbage White Ovipositing
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|This is from my archives of last year. In this image, a Large Cabbage White butterfly is ovipositing eggs on a garden plant. Many animals have ovipositors and Wikipedia defines it as follows:|
The ovipositor is an organ used by some animals for the laying of eggs. In insects an ovipositor consists of a maximum of three pairs of appendages. The details and morphology of the ovipositor vary, but typically its form is adapted to functions such as transmitting the egg, preparing a place for it, and placing it properly. In some insects the organ is used merely to attach the egg to some surface, but in many parasitic species (primarily in wasps and other Hymenoptera) it is a piercing organ as well.

What a great moment. Fascinating macro in good sharpness and beautiful colors. Sometimes the moment is more important then the quality, but both are great here.

How interesting to view a Cabbage White depositing an egg on a plant. I actually see two eggs in the frame. Nicely focused and showing beautiful well saturated colors. The exposure looks great. TFS.
