I dug out this picture of a White-throated Kingfisher from my archives of 2012. We used to see lots of birds on the school agricultural farm then; it is now replaced by a large indoor sports complex.

The white-throated kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) also known as the white-breasted kingfisher is a tree kingfisher, widely distributed in Asia from Turkey east through the Indian subcontinent to the Philippines. This kingfisher is a resident over much of its range, although some populations may make short distance movements. It can often be found well away from water where it feeds on a wide range of prey that includes small reptiles, amphibians, crabs, small rodents and even birds. During the breeding season they call loudly in the mornings from prominent perches including the tops of buildings in urban areas or on wires.

Hi Ram,
one of your really good bird shots, this White-throated Kingfisher. I have seen this bird in Turkey, thanks to your contribution and the instructive note (thanks !) I know now that its distribution is really wide.
Cheers, Dietrich

Hello Ram,
A nice specie of Kingfisher. In Danube Delta the summer I meet the European Kingfisher which is a bit smaller then the White-throated....Pity that the human interest is always whining against natural habitat and a lot of wild animals are gone forever.....

Ram very nice shot of this bird
colours are beautiful to
thanks gr lou

Hello Ram,
What a lovely kingfisher you have presented today. It looks similar to one I saw in Africa. It seems there is a great numbers of this species all over the world with their own unique colors and markings. This particular type is a beauty for sure with rich contrasting colors and beautiful body features. TFS.
