Common Jezebel
Scientific name : Delias eucharis

A beautiful butterfly with a wingspan of 65-85mm. Its underside hind wing is bright yellow with a row of crimson spots along the termen. In the female, the forewing apex is more rounded and the black lines along the veins are much broader. This gives the female a much darker appearance.

The Jezebel flies high up in the canopy and only comes lower down to feed on nectar in flowers. Due to this habit the colors on the underside of the butterfly's wing are very brilliant and the upperside is dull so that birds below it recognise it immediately.

The Jezebel is a distasteful butterfly due to alkaloids present in its body tissue. These alkaloids are consumed and accumulated during the caterpillar stage.
Eggs are laid in batches. About 10 - 20 in number although more is not unheard of. The caterpillars are gregarious in the first few instars. Caterpillars are yellow brown with a black head and have white tubercules from which long white hair arise.

This was a pic taken around 10 in the morning in our friends farm. It was very active and flying from one flower to another so guess work gave me this shot.

Here are my 2 Cents :)

You have already received excellent feed-back from others, here are some tips to improve, hope it will be of some help.

* The picture is slightly overexposed (scanning problem ?), You may want to restore the colors near the head of the butterfly by digging into RAW

* The bright sports could be avoided by the use of a polariser (might saturate the bufferfly's colors too)

* You may want to use the long end of the lens so that the lens only "sees" a portion of the backgroud thus making it uniform. A wide angle will include too much of a background.

BTW, i love the colors and the backlight.. stunning :)
