Hi everybody

I found these two Paper wasps in a park couple of month back.

Here are some info about them :

Paper wasps are 3/4 inch to 1 inch (2-2.5 cm)-long wasps that gather fibers from dried plant stems, which they mix with saliva, and use to construct water-resistant nests that appear to be made of gray or brown papery material. Paper wasps are also sometimes called umbrella wasps, due to the distinctive design of their nests.

The nests of most true paper wasps are characterised by having open combs with cells for brood rearing, and a petiole, or constricted stalk, that anchors the nest . Paper wasps secrete a chemical which repels ants, which they spread around the base of the anchor to prevent the loss of eggs or brood.

Hope you like it.
Regards

Behrad

Hi Behrad

This is a very interesting and colourful posting showing these paper wasps at work on their nest.

I really like your composition and POV. The colours (as mentioned) is stunning and the perfectly OOF BG does well to enhance the subject. Your exposure control was very good.

Now for the nits and some suggestions (and please, I’m not trying to pretend I know all, but these are pointers I received here on TN and it made a great difference to my macro photography). I think you could have done even better on the details if you narrowed down on your aperture. With macro photography the DOF becomes very critical and because you are so close to your subject the DOF range really comes down to a couple of millimetres. So, at f/5.6 there is just not enough range to cover the total field of this kind of object. Maybe you should have pushed it to around f/8 or even f/11. That would have meant that you probably had to make use of a fill-in flash, but I am sure your flash would have been able to maintain the required outcome even at 1/200 shutter speed.

Anyway, well done and TFS.
Regards

merhaba Behrad;
güzel bir çalışma tebrikler selamlar

I can make out it must be a very small nest, Behrad. You have mentioned the body size of this insect and the one in the foreground provides the scale for judging the size of the nest accurately.
A promising shot even though with the kind of advanced equipment you have, the focus perhaps could be a little better.
All the best.

Nice shot. Excellent background.
Like the POV but think the focus would be more effective on the closest wasp's head instead of body. Colours warm but realistic.

Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Behrad,
Beautiful shot, with brilliant colours and vry sharp detail. Exposure is spot-on and the well blurred BG puts more emphasis on the subject.

Very nice macro with amazing point of view Behrad.

I like it a lot: composition, POV, focus, colors, sharpness, background, lighting, framing.

I like it: DOF (something scarce for this capture and keeping in mind the bottom of the same one), notes.

I don't like it: nothing to grumble.

Excellent capture... thank you for sharing.

Hello Behrad,
Magnificent close up.POV,BG,details, lighting and composition are excellent.Have a great week!
TFS...:-)

Behrad,

Nice capture, wasps with eggs. Sigma 70-300 gives even greater details at smaller apertures.
