Indonesian Burung Kasuari (Casuarius casuarius) is also known as the Southern Cassowary, third largest bird in the world after the African ostrich and the emu, is a native of the eastern part of the Indonesian archipelago, the Irian Jaya province and the surrounding Islands, basically Papua-New Guinea. Also inhabits the uppermost forested areas of Australia.
THIS IS A FEROCIOUS BIRD, THE ONLY MAN-KILLING BIRD I KNOW!!! The 2004 Guiness Book of Records definatelly classifies cassowary as the most dangerous bird for humans. It is considered extremelly dangerous and treated like larger carnivorous mammals in handling.
While it doesnt eat the humans, the trumendeous ammount of muscular force combined with the mechanical of its weapons (steel beak and crested helmet that can crack skulls and claws to match) alonside amazing natural abilities like fast running or high jumping. Attacking cassowaries charge and kick, sometimes jumping on top of the victim. Unlike emus, which reputedly kick backwards, cassowaries can kick in a forward and downward direction. They may also peck, barge, or head-butt. The commonest injuries they cause in humans are puncture wounds, lacerations and bone fractures and also death as a cause of the mentioned.
Recorded victims are not only between the native islands but also amongst zoo keepers. Here is some macabrous literature:

STILL, the cassowary is not as much of a threat to humans as the other way around since loss of habitat, hunting, dogs and especially road kill decreased the number to the point where this animal became highly endangered and made it into the Red List, and efforts are made to preserve its existence for the future generations.

Salut Radu

Superb portret al unui animal ceva mai deosebit.
Punct de vedere excelent, perfect paralel cu subiectul, detalii foarte bune, culorii frumoase si lumina misto.
O fotografie intr-adevar foarte bine realizata.
...nu am avut nici cea mai mica idee ca asa o pasare frumoasa poate fi chiar asa de periculoasa...wow!

Bravo si TFS

Nice close-up and great bit of info. Cheers

Very sharp portrait of an interesting bird, they bring to mind the dinosaur-bird link.

Didn't know it was so bad in aggressiveness towards humans.
He always want to peck my lenses and is nervous (always changing the direction of the head quickly)
Wonderful capture...I have one too in my porffolio.
