These series of postings are intended to increase the knowledge on Sulawesi's biodiversity. Except for butterflies, little is known on most other insect groups and on spiders of this huge island. Many new species can be expected to be discovered. Large parts of Sulawesi are only poorly explored also with respect to butterflies, such as the south-eastern Peninsula, Sulawesi-Tenggara.

The picture shows an as yet
... unidentified grasshopper species.

Rain forest margin, about 20 km east of Kolaka (Indonesia, Southeast-Sulawesi).
I could observe many different species of grasshoppers at this place which I know since many years. It offers an entrance to the rain forest, i.e. there is a rivulet which allows to enter. Usually, there are no paths into the forest.

Hello Peter,
The close-up of the grasshopper is giving the impression to be a giant insect. The details and colors of the insect are clear and sharp. The good luminosity brings out the colors.
Best regards Siggi
