[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
At certain patches of humid soil/ground, you can sometimes find large aggregates of butterflies in the tropics.
Often theses aggregates are dominated by one species. In this case, I found a 'meeting' of this tail-less swallowtail butterfly
- Graphium eurypylus
- family: Papilionidae

You have to approach quite slowly! If you disturb only one of the butterflies, all the other specimens will follow in a turbulent cloud. I takes some time until they return and settle on exactly the same place although other areas nearby are also humid.

Place
Porabua. Humid sand at river Konaweha, which flows in a distance of about 50 cm from the butterfly.
Mountainous region in the south-eastern province of Sulawesi (Sulawesi-Tenggara), Indonesia

Species information
Graphium eurypylus occurs in south-east asia, through the Papua region to eastern Australia. The subspecies of Sulawesi is called ssp. pamphylus.
Wingspan: about 70 mm.

Conditions
- bright sunlight
- not so much space for approach due to the river on the one and a steep slope on the other side
- no wind
- handheld

Hi Peter,
You are lucky to find large numbers of beauties like these.
I only see a few butterflies each year, and I find it hard to get very close.
At least fungi don't fly away ;)
Great capture here.
Very well done!
Cheers & TFS
Steve

Hi Peter.
Blameless picture of an amazing of beauty butterfly. All details are reproduced fantastically texture of the wings, body and head, fine colouration of the butterfly, Sharpness of the insect image is ultimate and I like that scenery is reflected sharply too. You managed to achieve stunning 3D-effect. Transparence of the image and clarity are great as well as clean and nice colours. My congratulations and TFS.
Alexei.
