The picture shows two male butterflies of
- Euploea hewitsonii
- subfamily: Danainae)

They are sucking on a Heliotropium plant which contains the precursor molecules (pyrrolizidine-alkaloids) for their pheromones. Heliotropium is so 'kind' to do some biochemical work to produce just the right compounds for them.

Location
Porabua, a small village located at the Konaweha-River, surrounded by impressive and rainforest-covered mountains (Indonesia, Sulawesi-Tenggara).

Hello Peter,
A superb capture of these two feeding Danaids.
As usual the technical quality is excellent and the composition showing these two juxtaposed is just right. I haven't seen this species before on TN: perhaps it is new.
Thanks for posting this,
Best wishes,
Ivan

Hello Peter,
What a beautiful pair, forming a lovely balanced composition.
I really like the subtle colors of these butterflies.
That purplish blue on black is stunning.
As usual, perfect light and focus.
TFS. ; )

Hallo Peter
Striking image. These butterflies could easily have been twins. They are so alike yet when one look closer there are obvious differences. The shapes of the patterns are interesting to look at, as each one is different from the other. The contrast of the light blotches in combination with the black outlines is beautiful. They display beautiful against the green leaves as backdrop. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards
Anna
