[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
INSECTS OF SULAWESI
This series of postings should be understood as a contribution to increase the knowledge on insects of Sulawesi.

The picture shows a grasshopper just emerging from the pupa. Freshly hatched specimens still have a soft cuticula and adhere nearly motionless to their exuvia. In this situation they are very sensitive to attacks by other animals. However, Wthis specimen is well adapted by the colour within the vegetation and is hardly to detect.

Due to the high number of different species, the high number of endemic species and missing literature, identification of Sulawesi insects is difficult. Therefore, I cannot give a species name for the grasshopper shown on this picture and this will also be the case for further posted species.

Location
Porabua - a small village in the vast mountaineous and rain forest covered region north of the line Kolaka - Kendari (Indonesia, Southeast-Sulawesi).

Conditions
- natural light
- no wind
- handheld

Hi Peter,
again we have a magnificent macro!
Beautiful details and colors, congratulations.
It resembles a scene ... circus.
Have a quiet weekend,
Adrian

Hello Peter,
a first class macro shot, fantastic and interesting capture of this grasshopper's birth, superb sharpness and splendid natural colours, excellent POV showing perfectly this great moment, a very plesant vertical composition
TFS
Have a good Sunday
Ciao Maurizio
