INSECTS OF SULAWESI
This series of postings is intended to increase the knowledge on insects of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Except for butterflies, little is known on most other insect groups of this huge island.
Large parts are only poorly explored also with respect to butterflies, such as the south-eastern Peninsula, Sulawesi-Tenggara.

This time I'm not sure of the identity of this
dragonfly species of the family: Libellulidae.
The species looks close to European and also South East Asian Orthetrum.

Location
Porabua - a small village in the vast mountaineous and rain forest covered region north of the line Kolaka - Kendari (Indonesia, Southeast-Sulawesi).

Conditions
- natural light
- no wind
- handheld

Hello Peter,
What a special dragonfly, a really "Blue King"... and what a background in mater composition! No "shortcomings" today, eh??? :-)

I Think it's a Orthetrum glaucum (Brauer, 1865), but really I'm not sure. I prefer you to see the photos of this species
HERE and confirm if OK.

TFS / regards,

Jesús

Hallo Peter,

Hi Peter

Excellent shot of this beautiful blue dragon. I agree with Jesus and Sabine, that it is probably O.glaucum. the AsiaDragonfly website that Jesus provides a link to is an excellent source for identifying oriental species.
Excellent composition, sharpness and DOF. Love the series so far.

Hello Peter,
a very beautiful macro shot of this Sulawesi Dragonfly taken from an excellent POV with superb sharpness, a very good contrast of colours against a green BG, a very pleasant composition.
