[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Rhacophorus reinwardtii, The Javan Gliding Frog on a banana leaf. My first upload to TrekNature! This is a print scan from my pre-digital days. The scanner used was an old UMAX that gave me lots of problems. I was also not very proficient with Photoshop then! Velvia atn was used in Photoshop 7. The flash used was an old SB-16 and it was used direct with no diffuser/bounce.

This is a rather common species in the rural areas of Java during the rainy season. I've seen them on papaya, cassava, banana trees etc.
They lay eggs in a frothy foam nest, usually hanging on a shrub over water. They prefer still water over streams, that is why they love fish ponds and rice paddies.
Males are usually smaller (4-5 cm SVL) than females (8-9 cm SVL).
The colours are quite variable from individual to individual. This particular specimen is especially nice. I wish I have a photo of him gliding!

What a colorful little fellow. The details and exposure is really good on the body of the frog. He sure has some interesting webbed feet. Great shot. Thanks for sharing, and a warm welcome to TN. : )

Shot looks great, even with te technical problems. I'm still in the predigital era (working on film, not enough money for a good digital camera) and I know the difficulties encountered working with old scaners.Noise, unbalance, loss of sharpness, etc.,etc...
still, you can come up with some good work, like you did with this one.

Regards, Petru

You did good with what equipment you were working with. This frog is so colorful and cute. The pattern on the leaf in the background is very nice with the frog on it. Well done.

Welcome to TN.
Beautiful frog with stunning vivid colours. Bit burnt by the flash and a bit centred but great first post.
