[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

I do worry that this shot might strictly speaking be pushing the more purist boundaries of Trek "Nature" - but as I see it - 1) the gorgeous sunset is entirely natural, 2) the rice paddies and temple are as much a part of Balinese natural landscapes as fields and farm buildings are a part of English pastoral country scenes...

... besides which, I like this shot and wanted to share it with my fellow TNers!

Taken in central Bali on the outskirts of a small town called Ubud situated surrounded by rice paddies like this.

Being almost on the Equator, the sun here sets at a frightening near-vertical pace - so these stunning colours lasted just a minute or so. Felt the pressure getting my kit out of my slingshot, filter mount on, grad in, finding a nice viewpoint etc! Makes UK sunsets seem quite leisurely in comparison :-)

Didn't have my tripod so had to up the ISO a little to keep within handheld speeds and maintain a reasonable aperture - I think the balance worked ok - and the Grad filter did a sterling job balancing the sky.

I love the reflections in the rice paddies - and in case you were wondering, the tall "pole" is a Hindu prayer flag intended to help bring a healthy harvest of rice - just as the temple is a rice temple with the same purpose in mind - for blessing the crop.

Thanks for looking - and I hope you can forgive the minor deviation from the TN theme!
