INSECTS OF SULAWESI
This series of postings is intended to increase the knowledge on Sulawesi's biodiversity. Except for butterflies, little is known on most other insect groups and on spiders of this huge island. Many new species can be expected to be discovered. Large parts of Sulawesi are only poorly explored also with respect to butterflies, such as the south-eastern Peninsula, Sulawesi-Tenggara.

The picture shows a fly species which probably belongs to the family Calliphoridae. It looks similar to our European Lucilia-species.
Identification of Sulawesi flies is particular difficult!

Location
Rain forest margin in the vicinity of Porabua, Southeast-Sulawesi, Indonesia

Conditions
- bright natural light (ISO 400)
- no wind
- handheld

Hello Peter,
You made good use of the limited DOF to achieve good overall sharpness in this macro of a Sulawesian Calliphorid Fly against a fine neutral natural BG. The POV and composition are ideal.
Thanks and best wishes,
Ivan

Hello Peter,
A fly interesting to know. Here in my country there is great variety of these insects (excessive varieties, I would say), but I know of none with this kind of color cast. The insect is well captured and appreciate interesting details. It is even a photo with some dinamic, as can be seen moving slightly on the front legs when slashing each other. Well taking advantage of the brigth green natural background.
TFS & Regards,
Jesús

Hallo Peter
The sharp detail captured on this fly with its metallic colouration is praiseworthy and of high standard. Your camera work is excellent, showing us these wonderful features to its best. The light in your image is outstanding. A superb macro, in a great composition, presented in a pleasing manner. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Peter,
