I love it James....I REALLY loved Ev's last image for Markus as well..and a dedication too her was in order. I see you picked from your top drawer images. You know James..I get more questions about your Japanese image than any other of the dozens on my walls...It is outstanding..not sure what makes it stick out so much....and not to discount any others..Paul Haynes has one deer shot that .....it fits in so well with yours and this one has its own merits on personality...Super addition!

Hi James
What a great headliner for Evelynn... I can really releate...it's snowed yesterday just west of Cochrane, the mountains are pure white this morning.
Poor little Macque's, you captured their facial expression perferctly. They are to cold to call out. Nice detail, colour and composition.

Hi James,
Evelynn deserves a lot of dedication. Here present is always a pleasant, happy and honest one. I do hope that she is going to see this one otherwise I have to point her to it.
The expression is a wonderful one. I do agree that it looks like there is pain involved...maybe difficulties with some gass. :)

..So you dedicate "Winter Hell" to me!! I find that amusing even if I find the photo fantastic!! You know that I love these monkeys. The even light is perfect, and I love the soft reflection and the snow. I do think you have a wonderful knack for portrait photography and it shows here in the capture of that expression. The portraits you've posted on Photo.net are top notch!
This is a great photo and I truly appreciate your kind words and value your friendship too!
Thanks!!

Hi James,
Very good picture of these apes bathing. Difficult to say if the impression is of pain or relief and surely it is a very good impression which you have se well captured. Details are sharp and colours are excellent. In addition to the impression I like the snow that is in their fur.

Hello James,
A wonderful dedication to my old friend Evelynn, who, I agree, is a very special person.
And a wonderful capture of that expression... that welled up from the bottom of the soul of that macaque.
I have to say though, that when I look at that face, I do not see pain. No doubt, the feeling is a deep one. I think the association of "pain" comes from the blotchy red face, which reminds us of a burn victim. But if we can get past that, and we look at the eyes squinting in concentration, the mouth relaxing in anticipation, the body gliding into the warm spring.... we can possibly see the experience of utter bliss... "This feels so good it hurts!"
Whatever our interpretation, this is a masterpiece, James.
Isn't that the art of photography, not to have the image tell what "is", but to have the image evoke our feelings and stir our imagination?
TFS.

I have found this series of yours most appealing, James.
In this image too, the Macaque monkeys are coping with the elements of nature and conveying their sensations through very touching facial expressions.
The image is so perfect I feel as if I too am immersed in water and looking across at them from close proximity.
A masterpiece of a picture again.
Thanks and warm regards.

Hi James,
Apologise I don't know how this one slipped past but it did, so better late then never. It’s a bit hard to come up with something original when so much has been said, so I'll keep it simple & short,
"Superb shot and a wonderful dedication"

A very nice capture James. The expression is very anthropomorphic. Japanese macaques are very interesting in their quick adaptive behavior to adopt the warmth and comfort of the hot springs in the cold of the winter. One must think when they come out of the water they must be really cold. I would love to photograph these beautiful primates someday soon. What is a good time of the year to visit Kanbayashi Onsen?
