This shot was taken at Kaiyukan Aquarium, Osaka( Kaiyūkan) is one of the largest public aquariums in the world. It is located in the ward of Minato in Osaka, Japan, near Osaka Bay. The whole building is constructed round the central tank - see below - as is 8 storeys high.

The walk-through aquarium displays several habitats in 16 tanks, along with the marine life inside them. The habitats are from the Ring of Fire and the Ring of Life areas of the Pacific Ocean. The largest tank holds 5,400 cubic metres of water, and a variety of fish including a manta-ray and a whale shark (however, Ieven though I knew they had a Whale shark, I didn't see it for 5 minutes - the tank is so vast).

The tanks used in the aquarium are made of 314 tonnes of acrylic glass - roughly 1.5 times the world's annual production. The largest single pane measures six meters by five meters by thirty centimeters and weighs roughly 10 tons. At the thicknesses used, regular glass would not only be unwieldy, but would not have a desirable amount of transparency.

I am pretty sure this a Moon Jelly species, however, even though I photograped the display labels - I forgot this one! The Jelly fish display was of species found in Japanese waters.

Hi James
Very good shot. I like the light and details. Nice blue background and beautiful delicate yellow
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hi James,
I am just marking, I'll be back soon :)
Best greetings,
Radomir

Hi James,
This is very well done! Tones of colors, details and contrast are beautiful! Thanks for showing us a creature that we don't often see this way.
Claudine

Hi James, it looks like a Moon. These guys are found everywhere. My wife and I encountered a bunch while kayaking on Sydney Harbour last year, it was like paddling through soup. Just awesome, and I didn't have a camera. We carry a waterproof now. This shot of yours is very clear, showing their very clear anatomy. Great shot.

Thanks, John

Excellent image James, hard to get these aquarium shots right with the glass of course. Very nice light and color, it's well composed. You've shown the delicate details and structure of this moon jelly famously :)
Howard

A perfect shot of this "moon jelly" (Aurelia aurita) James, considering the problem of avoiding reflections from an aquarium glass, that dark blue BG really displays the various structural details of this partly transparent jelly to a perfection. TFS.
Mehmet

Hello James awsome detail you got here I never seem to get the flash/exposure right when trying this out. You got some good detail and I like how you composed the shot offset from the centre. tfs best rgds Necip.

Hi James!

Very beautiful! I'm amazed! Such a delicate creature that looks like coming from another planet! And moreover it offers a fine artistic impression.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi James,

Hello friend James!

A perfect capture of this pelagic jelly fish (I think it is a Aurelia species? Am I right?). Excellent details; oral lobes and 4 yellow colored gonads are distinct! with periferal located tentacles and rhopalium structures. Great work!
TFS friend!
Best regards,
Bayram

I have not tried photographing fish yet, birds are still challenge enough for me. This looks like a national Geographic shot. The contrast from the BG is beautiful.

Hi James,
Wonderful shot of this Jellyfish with such sharp details and colours. Great lighting and the darkish BG really highlights it perfectly. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.
TFS.

Very fine capture from an aquarium, James.
I have almost non-existent knowledge about marine life, so this is an educational experience for me to look at this creature.
Needless to say, I have read your note on it with deep interest.
TFS and regards.

That's incredible! A Whale shark in an aquarium!!
A great shot of this Moon Jellyfish!
Did you use a flash to illuminate it?
Very sharp with great clarity and detail.
It stands out very well against the gloomy surroundings.
Perfect lighting.
Very well done!

These things never cease to amaze me..and unsettle me too! However, this is an excellent shot, espeically considering how thick that glass is! Fine detail and very well exposed, great job.
