Yes I was this close, about a meter away from this deer, there are alot of wild deer in Nara prefecture, they are worshipped like a God because it is a God in Japanese religion.

The Deer are allowed to roam around freely and wherever they want and if they are injured in anyway for example car accident or are abused in any physical way, the punishment is quite heavy.

Oh yes, every year there is a festival in Japan where they cut the antlers of the deer because they could injure humans, but I think they want to cut it off to make profits in the shops.
