This time of the year, i have the opportunity to go around the padi fileds of Kedah. I roamed to see the vast plains of rice fields, Malay villages and the signature of paddy planting.
Here I capture the irrigation canal, that is full of water to allow the paddy to be well fed. The stalks will later will be full grained and heavy.
The distance clusters of trees are actually the farmers' houses in the middle of padi fields. The cluster together and their villages are named as "island", due to the isolation of land in the middle of ocean of rice.
The time now is considered dry, as the wind is dry that suck up the water very fast. The water that filled the canal is not rain water, instead it is from the dam about 100km away.
The dryness, very cooling at night and striking hot during the day is due to less onstruction in the sky.
At times the puffy clouds show themselves, and I dance with my camera to capture this scenery.

The landscape is dominated by seemingly never
ending paddy fields. Kedah (and Perlis) is called the rice bowl of Malaysia.
It's not the most visited parts of the country by foreigners, but Kedah is actually one of the prettier states in Malaysia encompassing a series of lush, green padi fields, rubber estates and kampungs (village areas).

It's about 45 km south of the Thai border and 100 km north of Penang. It is the last main city you reach if you go via the west coast to Thailand.
The city is a major center for trade in rice and rubber. It's also the residence of the Sultan of Kedah. Alor Setar is also home to many old buildings still standing in their original form beside other relics of Kedah's past.

"Alor" or more correctly, "alur" is Malay for a groove, furrow or main stream of a channel. In Tamil "alur" means drain. "Star" or "setar" is a plant with small, sour fruit (Bouea macrophylla) also known as either "kundang" or "remia" in Malay. The uniqueness of these fruits is that when you split the seed, each part is purple in color.

Hallo Foozi
How beautiful and clear is the landscape in front of me! The colours are almost overwhelmingly bright, but oh so striking and indeed beautiful. From what I see it is so clean and unpolluted and the wide opened space is breathtaking. In how many more words can I tell you that this is really a lovely view whilst I could have used only one? Remarkable. Thanks for sharing the Sky of Kedah Padi Fields and the peaceful atmosphere that surrounds it. I like the scenery a lot. Best regards.

Hello Foozi,
Hope you'll be doing fine. This is a breath-talking scenery of the place you have described in such poetic prose and in such detail too. The enormous blue skies with drifting grayish white domed clouds with various shades of green of paddy fields to the dark green of houses beyond and the dull bluish glint of water in the foreground, reflecting the white of clouds. Your land is amazing in colours and flat like mine but mine is a thirsty land, called the land of 'Damaan'. Really enjoyed this photo which makes the perspective so clear and which is panoramic. Thanks a lot for sharing this and thanks as ever for comments on my photos....take care...warmest regards/abid

Hello Foozy,
A superb sky with a wonderful depth of colour and the cloud formation add nicely to the composition. The FG water and rice paddy and treed sky line give a feeling of space.
Thanks with greetings from a wintery Sweden.
