Size: 15 cm
Location: Bukit Tinggi (Malaysia)
Blue upperparts and white underparts, pale buff eye-ring. The female is much drabber, with brown upperparts and white underparts and a dark eye which stands out against the paler brown face; long, strong looking bill with the pale grey base to the lower mandible.
Coniferous forests with dense undergrowth near water. The diet includes insects; it is a ground feeder.
Uncommon winter visitor and passage migrant in Singapore.
