This plant was down the creek. A bit difficult to get a better view. I have to reach out far, not using the eye piece view, but allowing my hand to go as far as possible and click!

The local call it pitcher plant. But scientifically it is different.
The curious cobra lily (A. speciosum), from Nepal and Sikkim state of India, has a slightly drooping spathe and a spadix decorated by a long threadlike extension. A. fimbriatum, from the Malay Peninsula, has a tasseled spadix.

Arisaema is a genus of about 150 species in the flowering plant family Araceae, native to eastern and central Africa, Asia and eastern North America. Its species are often called Cobra lilies, particularly the Asiatic species. A familiar species in North America is Arisaema triphyllum (Jack in the pulpit).
Another species Arisaema tortuosum is found in the Western Ghats and northern parts of India. This is commonly called whipcord cobra lily and by many other names in the Indian subcontinent.

The closest relatives of Arisaema appear to be Pinellia and Typhonium (although the latter as defined in 2004 seems to be paraphyletic, having given rise to Arisaema and other genera). One unusual trait shared by all Arisaema species, and not those of other genera, is the sex change. Arisaema plants are typically male when small, and female or hermaphraditic when large, with a single plant capable of changing sex based on nutrition and genetics, and perhaps changing sex several times during its long life (20 years or more).

Hi Foozi,

Very interesting flower with delicate line of petal and attractive color!
It is mysterious that the center of a flower is concealed.
And, well composed and rich color tone.

Hello Foozi,
What a stunning photo of this beautiful plant. It looks a lot like our Jack-In-The-Pulpit plants that we have here in Ohio, except ours are not nearly as colorful. This is a real beauty and I wish we had some growing around here.
The dark burgandy flower is very attractive in contrast to the green foilage. Super shot!!

Hi Foozi,

The leaves are framing well the flower. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the pitcher plant. It is clear and sharp. The late afternoon light is enhancing the colors. have a nice day.
