Lesser Racket-Tailed Drongo

Location: Fraser’s Hill (Pahang)

Look for diagnostic thin ‘racket’ in tail.

Like other drongos, a variety of whistles; also mimics other bird calls.

A mountain species that begin to appear where the Greater disappear, i.e. from 800m and upwards the tree limit; and also reported in the lowlands. Usually seen sitting passively in the middle storey of the dark primary forest. It also joins mixed feeding flocks, the so-called bird waves.

Oriental region. Alocally fairly common resident in parts of the mainland and montane Peninsular Malaysia.
