Speckled Piculet
(Picumnus innominatus)
Size: 10 cm
Location: Fraserís Hill (Pahang)

A tiny woodpecker; unmistakable; note it distinctly barred under-parts

A sharp tsick; also make a faint tapping noise while feeding.

Mainly a lower mountain forest species found in the foothills and elevated areas up to 1800m and also the lowlands. It moves low in bamboo tickets, restlessly picking up tiny prey. It often gets in the company of other insectivorous birds in so-called bird waves. It is quite tame; can be approached, but doesnít stay long in one place.

Oriental region. Within the region, a locally fairly common, but generally scarce resident in northern parts of the region, including montane Peninsular Malaysia; but excluding Hong Kong; rare in northern Borneo; including Brunei.
