Scaly-Crowned Babbler
(Malacopteron cinereum)
Size: 17 cm
Location: Panti Forest (Johor/Malaysia)

Description:
Look for pink legs and pale chest; scales on rufous crown are sometimes visible.

Voice:
5 6 whistling notes, ascending slowly.

Habits:
A forest bird found in primary rainforest and mature secondary forest, mainly in the lowlands; locally also found at lower montane elevations. It moves in the lower storey of the forest, hopping along inside the undergrowth, occasionally up into the middle storey. It calls all through the morning, but never stay long in one place.

Distribution:
Southeast Asia into Java (Indonesia). A locally fairly common resident in southern Indochina, south Thailand, Malaysia and Brunei.
