Black & Red Broadbill

Size: 25 cm - Ex/RB, VR/NBV - PU
Location Ė Panti Forest Reserve (Malaysia) / Kaeng Krachan National Park (Thailand)

Best distinguished from the Banded Broadbill by the white stripe in itís wings. The only member of itís genus.

A low, clear whistle followed by some harsher notes.

Found in lowland rainforest, often in disturbed areas, and almost always near water. It prefers coastal mangroves, flooded forests and inland rivers. It lives mainly at sea-level, although in Sumatra it occurs to 900m. it perches in the middle storey or lower, feeding on insects. The nest is a large pouch, suspended near or over the water.

Extinct resident breeder in Singapore.
Southeast Asia. A generally scarce resident in Sumatra, including the nearby Bangka and Belitung Islands and Kalimantan.
