[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It was last year(2005) when I took this shot at Sedim river,Kedah.I'm also a 4X4 enthusiast and I've been to several jungle in Malaysia(lucky me..) but this bug is my 1st time encounter.Till today I've yet to know the real name of this bug but was told by the local(orang asli) natives it's called Coconut Bug.
It caught my attension with it's striking color and the weird looking front end.At that time I'm only using 18-55mm lense, speed 1/80,f5.6 with ISO 200
The bug is approximately 1-1.5 inches in length.Sedim river is a popular place for camping and picnic for local people around Penang and Kulim. It's around 45min drive from Kulim Hi-Tech park.

What a strange looking insect, look's a little like a playtoy. You've captured it quit well, sufficient sharp. A little pity of the grass before the insect but sometimes it appears like it is. Well done.

too bad about the grass, but thatīs nature.

hi mj,
very good composition of this colourful insect.details are sharp and well-seen,colours are amazing with the contrast of orange to green),good POV and useful note.
thank you for sharing.
P.S.the grass in front of the insect looks OK for me.

Hi Mj,

I'm pretty sure that this colourful creature is a weevil of the genus Macrochirus.

Best regards,
