At one time, they were everywhere; now they are rarely seen. What is happening to them? Why are they conspicuous by their alarming absence?

A fine capture of this male House Sparrow from a rear POV. The turned head has a fine catchlight in the eye and the sharpness is excellent in a fine DOF that provides a clean BG.
They are becoming rare in many parts of Europe too.
