|I took this close up shot of this beautiful male Asian Koel(Eudynamys scolopaceus) in summer this year, that is, in August,2014. These are very elusive birds and I have always found it difficult to take a clean shot.As I have resized the original some of the flaws of the shot are not perceptible but this is not even a good quality shot what to speak of a top quality. But I have preferred to post it after a few months because of the head of the bird including of course the thick beak and the red eye for better identification of this bird. The bird has a thick strong wonderful beak.Personally I love this hardy species of parasite.Hope friends will like the shot.|
The Asian koel (Eudynamys scolopaceus) is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, the Cuculiformes. It is found in South Asia, China, and Southeast Asia. It forms a superspecies with the closely related black-billed and Pacific koels which are sometimes treated as subspecies. The Asian koel is a brood parasite that lays its eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts, who raise its young. They are unusual among the cuckoos in being largely frugivorous as adults. The name koel is echoic in origin with several language variants. The bird is a widely used symbol in Indian poetry. (Wikipedia)
