Small, orange and grey ground thrush. It has a deep orange head and under parts. It has a white vent and shoulder patch. It’s has a bluish-grey upper parts. Female is browner. Andaman and Nicobar races lack white on shoulder.
Shrill kree call and loud rich song, often with mimicry of other birds.
Inhabits forests, plantations and wooded patches, often near water in shading spots. It feeds in pairs or single, unobtrusively on ground, usually under cover. It remains motionless if disturbed, either on the ground or after flying into the tree. It feeds on invertebrates in leaf-litter. Crepuscular. It nests low in tree.
Rare visitors throughout the island.
