(Pelargopsis capensis) 鹳嘴翡翠
Size: 38 cm
A very large, mainly blue and buff kingfisher with a large head and huge red bill, making it appear top-heavy. Dull blue upper-parts, brown crown and rich yellow-buff collar and under-parts. Its tail is fairly long. Its feet are small and red. Sexes are alike.
Very noisy. A loud, ringing, oft-repeated kee kee kee
Inhabits larger, well-wooded lakes, rivers and forest streams. It also wooded coasts and mangroves. It stays hidden in vegetation for long periods. Feeds on fish by diving but also eats crustacean, reptiles and rodents and young birds. It nests in self-made burrow in bank.
Fairly common breeding resident in Singapore.

What a fantastic photo of the colorful bird with it's oversized bill. Very vright colors, sharp plumage and a good eye contact. The background is perfect.
