Oriental Honey Buzzard
(Pernis ptilorhyncus) 凤头蜂鹰
Size: 50 cm

Plumage varies from dark brown to almost white; look instead for flight silhouette with diagnostic long neck and tail, and fairly long wings.

Silent during migration; a high-pitched call during breeding.

Occurs in all type of forested habitat, from sub-mountain rainforest (residents) to open woodlands (migratory birds). It moves about singly, but will form flocks during peak migration. It has a unique preference for raiding beehives and feeding on larvae inside.

Common winter visitor throughout Singapore, including north offshore islands.
