Blue-Winged Pitta
(Pitta moluccenis) 蓝翅八色鸫
Size: 20 cm

Distinguished from Mangrove Pitta by apale coronal band and smaller bill; note short tail creates a stocky appearance in flight.

A fluty tu-teew.

Resident in decidous lowland forests and open woodlands. Avoid in closed typical rainforest. During migration often found in coastal scrub and gardens. Feeds on invertebrate prey while hopping along on the ground and perching on low branches. It moves higher up when calling. Makes short flights along the ground with rapid wings beats.

Uncommon winter visitor in some parts of Singapore.
