Oriental White-Eye
(Zosterops palpebrosus) Size: 11cm - U/rI/RB - Wooded areas
Description:
Note it’s all yellow under-parts. Some sub-species (such as west Javan) have a grey belly with a yellow center stripe. The only lowland white-eye with its range in Indonesia, apart from the Yellow-Spectacled White-Eye and the Lemon-Bellied White-Eye, Z. chloris, confined to small offshore islands.
Voice:
A frequent, high-pitched chatter.
Habits:
Found in open woodlands, mangroves and cultivations. It also occurs in inland forest to 1400m (sometimes higher). It’s always seen in flocks, sometimes mixing with other small birds, moving restlessly through the trees, feeding on flowers, insects and small fruits.
Distribution:
An uncommon resident breeder throughout Singapore. |
