Long-Tailed Shrike
(Lanius schach)
Size: 25 cm

Look for long black tail and black wings.

A low, squeaky song, also a harsh keep.

An open country species found in open fields and scrub, often near rural roads and villages. It occurs in the lowlands and at low mountain elevations; on Sumatra to 1,800m. Very conspicuous; can be spotted a long way off, perch onto small prey below. Flies low across the fields to the next perch when disturbed.

A locally common resident breeder and winter visitors on the island.
