(Haliastur indus) 栗鸢
Size: 45 cm
Note its diagnostic chestnut-brown upper-parts and black wingtips. The immature bird is mottled brown.
A nasal, mewing call.
Mainly a coastal bird, frequently seen in mangroves and harbour areas. Also found along inland rivers and in wooded terrain far from water; occurs locally up into mountain elevations. Flies low, dropping down to catch prey or pick up carrion.
Common resident breeder throughout Singapore, including north and south offshore islands.
