Purple-Throated Sunbird
(Nectarinia sperata)
Size: 10 cm

Tiny size; the smallest of the sunbirds. Blackish upper-parts contrasting with green cap and maroon belly are diagnostic. Female has a uniform dark olive.

A high-pitched series of chirps and whistles.

Found in wooded areas, from secondary rainforest and forest edges to plantations and mature gardens. This restless bird flutters about quickly in the canopies of small trees, where it feeds on flowers and tiny fruits and insects.

Common resident breeder and only in some forested areas of the island.
