Mangrove Pitta
(Pitta megarhyncha) 红树八色鸫
Size: 20 cm
Description:
Distinguished from Blue-Winged Pitta by habitat, strong bill and dark crown.
Voice:
Similar to Blue-Winged but more slurred; calls often during breeding season.
Habits:
A mangrove species occurring mostly in tidal mangrove forest, although see occasionally in nearby coastal woodlands. A low density species, but in suitable habitat quite predictable, and can be lured out by playing its call. Calls from a low branch in the forest and perches on the ground and on lobster mounds.
Distribution:
Rare resident breeder only exist in Pulau Ubin island but now in Pasir Ris Mangrove Swamp too. |
